Position: Town Public Works and Maintenance Person

A part-time employee in this position reports to the Town Administrator. The employee will perform varied job duties that require a high attention to detail, responsibility, confidentiality, and the ability to adapt and multitask. Essential functions will be executed inside and outside with exposure to various weather and working conditions.

 

Employee will work up to 25 hours per week at $13.00 per hour, with additional hours assigned as needed. The schedule will be determined by the Town Administrator with input from the employee.

 

Essential Functions:    

Town Hall

- Manage Town Hall pest control, including removing mud dobbers upon appearance, spraying wasp nests, keeping doors and door frames free of bugs, and managing the yearly pest control service

- Conduct building and accessory structure maintenance and repairs including cleaning the Town Hall building windows every six months and as needed, cleaning gutters, pressure washing, etc.

- Schedule and supervise air conditioner maintenance

- Organize and maintain the Town Hall workshop

- Clean Town Hall garbage and recycling toters every six months and as needed

- Use electric blower to blow leaves and dirt out of carport and clean parking lot, remove minor debris from parking lot after storms

- Clean interior of Town Hall building weekly and as-needed, including sweeping, mopping, cleaning ceiling fans, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, etc.

- Maintain Commission meeting room and arrange tables and chairs as necessary

- Make minor building improvements and repairs

- Plant and maintain landscaping (not including mowing lawn) around Town Hall, including weeding by hand

 

General

- Set up on-site estimates with contractors for Town Hall work as directed, including tree trimming and road work

- Conduct research on Town business

- Use a computer to prepare reports on estimates and Town business and present reports to the Town Commission as needed

- Conduct annual water testing at Town Hall and residential wells

- Drive Town vehicle to post office, landfill, stores, Health Department, etc. as needed

- Make Town purchases as directed

- Interact with the public

- Attend Town Commission Meetings upon request

- Maintain Town equipment

Vehicle

- Perform routine basic vehicle maintenance (washing, checking fluids, etc.), obtain pricing and schedule additional maintenance

- Keep record of all vehicle maintenance and repairs

 

Streets & Rights of Way

- Tour Town routinely, report to Clerk any non-conforming signs, unlicensed vendors, animal, street light and right-of-way maintenance issues, and any other unusual situations observed within Town limits while conducting street inspections

- Keep a street inspection and maintenance log

- Remove trash from rights of way and Town Hall parking lot as needed

- Trim trees and bushes when an outside company is not necessary

- Ensure Town streets are maintained and repaired as needed

- Maintain all Town signs including street signs and the Town Hall building sign

 

- Any additional tasks as assigned, at the discretion of the Town Clerk

 

Employment Requirements:

- A background check will be completed for the selected candidate. 

- The selected candidate will be processed through the E-Verify system.

- Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License is required for the duration of employment.

- Applicant must be computer literate and adaptable to new technologies.

- Applicant must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.

- Applicant must be able to climb stairs and access interior ceilings and exterior roof eaves using a ladder.

- Applicant must adhere to all current Town Policies and Procedures, as amended.

- Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals.

- Some tasks require the ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

- Some tasks require the applicant to use a computer.

- Applicant must possess ability to frequently bend, climb, stoop, squat, kneel and walk.

- Applicant must possess the physical strength and ability to work outside, occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
